Privacy Policy

Scroll Art is an iPhone app and website (scrollart.app) operated by Eli Riedel in San Marcos, Texas, United States ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is written to be read; if anything is unclear, email hello@scrollart.app.

What we collect

Things you give us

Account details: email address, username, display name, and an optional bio and profile picture. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email (or Apple's private relay address) and, the first time only, your name.
Your art personality quiz answers and the result. We use these to personalize your feed and to show you people with a similar taste.
Content you post: comments, replies, and collection names.
Reports you file about other people's content.
Payment details are collected by Apple (for purchases in the app) or by Stripe (for purchases on our website). We never see your card number.

Things we record as you use Scroll Art

Activity: paintings you view and for how long, like, save, share, and comment on; stories you watch; searches; people and artists you follow or block. This drives your feed ranking and the "don't show me this again" behaviour.
Product analytics: which screens you open, buttons you tap, quiz progress, and whether you started or ended a trial, collected through PostHog. This is tied to your account id so we can understand how the app is used; it is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
Crash and error reports through Sentry: what went wrong, the app version, iOS version, and device model. No screenshots.
Membership status: whether your trial or subscription is active, through RevenueCat.
Device tokens for push notifications, if you turn them on.
Preferences: reminder time, feed layout, caption settings.

What we do not collect

Your precise location, contacts, photos (unless you choose a profile picture), health data, or the advertising identifier (IDFA). We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not sell personal data.

How we use it

To run the app and website, and to personalize your feed and recommendations.
To process your membership, free trial, and any refunds.
To send you the emails you asked for: sign-in codes, password resets and receipts.
To send push notifications you have turned on: the daily painting and replies to your comments.
To keep the community safe: reviewing reports, removing content, and blocking accounts that break the Terms.
To understand what works and fix what doesn't (analytics and crash reports).

Who we share it with

We use these companies to run Scroll Art. Each receives only what it needs for its job, and each is bound by its own privacy terms.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of Scroll Art and its members. If Scroll Art is ever sold, your data would transfer with it under this policy.

Where it lives and how long

Data is stored in the United States. We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, your profile, quiz result, likes, saves, comments, collections, follows, and view history are deleted within 30 days. Purchase records are kept by Apple, Stripe, and RevenueCat for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Crash and analytics data is kept for up to 12 months.

Your choices

Delete your account at any time in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. This also cancels nothing automatically: to stop a subscription, cancel it in your Apple ID settings or, for website purchases, from the "Manage subscription" link in the app.
Turn off analytics in Profile → Settings → Privacy. Crash reports have no personal content and stay on.
Notifications can be turned off in Settings or in iOS.
Block or report anyone from their comment or profile.
Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, at hello@scrollart.app. We answer within 30 days.

If you live in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or the CCPA, including access, correction, deletion, portability, and the right to object. The email above is how to use them. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined by California law.

Children

Scroll Art is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

The paintings

Every painting in Scroll Art was released by its museum as public domain or CC0. Descriptive text comes from the museums or from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0) and is credited where shown. Some short facts are written from that source text with the help of AI and may contain errors.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
